Pizza is a circle, so its area increases with the square of the radius. A 16-inch pizza has 1.78× the area of a 12-inch pizza — not just 33% more! This means one 16-inch pizza gives you almost as much pizza as two 12-inch ones. Always compare area (π × r²) rather than diameter when evaluating value.
How Many Pizzas to Order
The average adult eats 2–3 slices of pizza. A large 14-inch pizza typically has 10 slices. For a party, plan 3 slices per adult. Hungry group? Plan 4 slices each. Kids typically eat 1–2 slices. Always round up — leftover pizza is never a problem!
Understanding the pizza size calculator
Pizza is priced by diameter but eaten by area, and area grows with the square of the radius. That is why an 18 inch pizza is not twice a 12 inch, it is more than twice, and why two mediums are usually worse value than one large. Planning for a group means working in square inches per person rather than counting slices.
